Water Balloon Games

Water Balloon games are perfect for summer time fun

water balloon Regular laytex balloons can be filled with water and used for these games but they are thin walled and made to hold air. The laytex balloons are more likely to break when you are trying to put water into them.

The best balloons for these water games are ones that are made especially to hold water.

The water holding balloons are thicker walled and much smaller in size.

They are easy to find in stores during the summer months.

Supplies Needed:
Balloons, water, summer heat and a need for fun.

Here are two great sources for balloons and other party supplies:

Balloon Pop Race
Split into two teams with each person having a balloon. On "go" the first person in line runs to a plastic lawn chair and has to pop their balloon. They then run back to the next person in line who runs to the chair and pops their balloon.

Target Practice
Draw or hang a bullseye on a fence or other hard surface. Take turns trying to hit the center with a water balloon.

Hot Balloon
Fill a balloon with water. Stand a few feet from each other and toss the balloon back and forth. After every good catch or two take a step backwards so you are further and further apart.

Balloon Basketball
Set up a bucket in the center of the lawn. Divide into two teams. To make a basket each person on the team has to be tossed the balloon at least once before trying to place it into the basket.

Balloon Toss
Each person has a balloon filled to the brim with water. See who can toss the balloon the highest up into the air and catch it without it popping.

Balloon Craft

Balloon Faces

Glue pieces of construction paper or felt onto an inflated balloon to create a face. Or you could use markers to draw the face.
Glue pieces of yarn or curling ribbon to the top for hair.
You can use styrofoam cups to create a neck and to hold the balloon up. Turn the cup over and poke a small hole in the bottom. Stick balloon opening through the hole and tape or glue in place.
If you need more weight, you can glue or tape the cup to a paper plate.

Balloon Facts
Helium escapes from a balloon because the helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex.
It takes a day or so to leak out.

The inside of a balloon can be treated with a polymer solution (a gel sold by the trade name "Hi Float") which coats the inside and clogs the pores.
Clogging the pores keeps the helium atoms from escaping and lets the balloon stay inflated for a week or longer.
