Decorations:
If you have a train set it would be a nice addition for the Train Birthday Party, set it up somewhere so the kids can watch it run.
Use bright colored balloons everywhere. Make small groups of helium filled balloons to set in the corners of the party area. You can adjust the size of the strings so that the balloons hang at various heights.
Use a toy train as the centerpiece on the table. You can have one train and one caboose, use pretzel rods laid on the table to act as the rails.
Activities:
Choo Choo Run:
Have everyone line up and hold onto the waist of the person in front of them. The first person in the line is the engine and gets to lead where everyone goes. Try some tight circles and snake weaves. Every so often someone should shout "All aboard" at which time the engine person has to become the caboose and go to the end of the line.
Train Crossing Pin-Up Game:
Draw a crossing sign on some large paper. (the back of wrapping paper works well) Make some red and green lights out of constuction paper. Put each guests name on a light. Blindfold the guests and have them try to put the light onto the crossing sign. Closest person wins.

Make Your Own Train:
Supplies: large boxes, crayons and imagination.
Fold the top and bottoms of the boxes inward or cut all the flaps off. Place all the boxes into the center of the room and give the children a supply of crayons so they can decorate their train cars. Once they have them decorated, you can have each child get into a car and they can parade around the room as a train with each box touching the one in front of it.
Food and Drinks:
No Bake Lumps of Coal:
These no bake cookies can be lumps of coal for a train car:
2 Cups Sugar 1/2 Cup Milk
1/2 Cup Cocoa 1/4 lb Butter
Put all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil for one minute.
Remove from heat and add:
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1 tsp Vanilla
3 Cups Quick Oats
Stir well, Drop onto wax paper by the teaspoon.
Logs:
Pretzel rods make great logs for a log car. Take a rectangular box lid and line with tissue paper. Place logs on the tissue. You could add some cardboard wheels with thumb tacks.
