Supplies for a Space Party
The first step to creating atmosphere with party decorations is to make a list of every item you can think of that has to do with the theme of the party. Write down everything, regardless of whethter you think it will be used for the party.
Here is my idea list for a space party:
planets, dark colors, rockets, stars, astronauts, gravity, moon walk, craters, moon rocks, aliens, space ships, twinkling (stars), lost in space, sky, lunar, and monkey.
My next step is to put the theme items into a decorating list. This list will assure that you don't leave any surface of the party area uncovered. It also can be used as a shopping list for your Space Party Decorations.

Ceiling:

Outerspace is dark, so to create a dark setting, I will cover the ceiling and walls with glitter star gossamerWhen covering the walls just hang the fabric over pictures, over built in cabinets and over the windows. The only time I would take something off the walls is if it protrudes out and would cause a huge bulge in the fabric.
Floor Decorating (this step is optional)
Buy some inexpensive carpet padding in a grayish brown coloring, and place on the floor for the party. This creates a sponging feeling when you walk on it and can make a guest feel like they are walking on the moon. It also save your rug from any drink spills.Space Party Decorations for the Ceiling:
Once you have the fabric draped across the ceiling, you can now hang items from it using safety pins and fishing line.Looking at the decorating list, choose a few items to hang from the ceiling. Glow in the dark stars
For stars
Space Party Decorations for Walls:
For the walls I would keep it fairly simple. Drape the walls with gossamer and then add some small glow in the dark star stickers if you didn't use the gossamer with glow in the dark stars.
Miscellaneous Space Party Decorations:
This section covers thing you would put on the party table as well as stand alone decorations.For the table tops you can simply add some glitter stars
If you have models of rocket ships, astronauts or a globe, you can add those items to table tops.
I would also consider going out into the yard and gathering some unique looking rocks and placing them in groups on the tables. You can call them moon rocks! These are inexpensive Space Party Decorations. Groups of odd numbers look better than even numbered one, so put three to five in a pile.
