![]() Bird Seed HeartsBirds are scrounging for food at this time of the year, help them out by creating a heart just for them.Supplies Needed: Bird Seed Peanut Butter String Cardboard Cut a heart shape from a 4" square of paper to use as a template. Use the cardboard and heart template to cut out one heart for each child. Use a hole punch to create a hole at the top of the heart, insert the string to create a hoop for hanging. Children spread the peanut butter onto the heart and then sprinkle the bird seed onto the peanut butter. They can place the larger seeds around the edge or just sprinkle randomly.
![]() Valentine Candy HolderThis preschool Valentine craft is a little more challenging, yet young children can still make these with some guidance.Supplies Needed: Paper Punch Yarn Tape Clear Plastic Sheeting (overhead projector type thickness) Construction Paper Candy Scissors
Before Class: Cut one heart out of the plastic sheeting and one heart out of the construction paper for each child.
In Class: Wrap a small piece of tape on the end of the yarn, this stiffens it and makes it easier for the kids to thread through the holes. Laying the two hearts together so the holes line up, start lacing them together. Start at the bottom of the heart, insert the thread into the bottom hole and leave a small tail hanging down. Thread the yarn up to the top curve of the heart, don't go all the way to the center. Thread the second piece of yarn, stopping it at the curve. Tie the yarn at the bottom of the heart into a knot.
Insert candy into the heart and finish lacing it to the center. I used embroidery thread and paper twist on mine as I didn't have any yarn laying around. Yarn will be much easier for the children to use for lacing their hearts!
