Peanut Butter Cookie Hearts

Use this peanut butter heart cookie recipe to make the cookies before class time.

Supplies needed:
2-3 Heart Shaped Cookies Per Child
Peanut Butter (Smooth)
Chocolate Chips
Napkins
Paper Plates

Place the cookies onto the plates. Give each child a tablespoon of peanut butter and a handful of chocolate chips. Spread a dab of peanut butter onto the bottom of the chocolate chips and place around the outer edge of the cookies. It's a simple craft, yet fun for the kids to do.

bird seed hearts

Bird Seed Hearts

Birds are scrounging for food at this time of the year, help them out by creating a heart just for them.

Supplies Needed:
Bird Seed
Peanut Butter
String
Cardboard

Cut a heart shape from a 4" square of paper to use as a template. Use the cardboard and heart template to cut out one heart for each child.

Use a hole punch to create a hole at the top of the heart, insert the string to create a hoop for hanging.

Children spread the peanut butter onto the heart and then sprinkle the bird seed onto the peanut butter. They can place the larger seeds around the edge or just sprinkle randomly.

valentine candy holder

Valentine Candy Holder

This preschool Valentine craft is a little more challenging, yet young children can still make these with some guidance.

Supplies Needed:
Paper Punch
Yarn
Tape
Clear Plastic Sheeting (overhead projector type thickness)
Construction Paper
Candy
Scissors

Before Class:
Using a 6" square of paper create a heart template.

Cut one heart out of the plastic sheeting and one heart out of the construction paper for each child.
Lay a paper heart and a plastic heart together and punch holes along the outer edge.
Cut two pieces of yarn for each child, making the yarn pieces 24" in length.

In Class:
Give each child one plastic and one construction paper heart, two pieces of yarn, and some candy.

Wrap a small piece of tape on the end of the yarn, this stiffens it and makes it easier for the kids to thread through the holes.

Laying the two hearts together so the holes line up, start lacing them together.

Start at the bottom of the heart, insert the thread into the bottom hole and leave a small tail hanging down. Thread the yarn up to the top curve of the heart, don't go all the way to the center. Thread the second piece of yarn, stopping it at the curve.

Tie the yarn at the bottom of the heart into a knot.

Insert candy into the heart and finish lacing it to the center.
Tie the yarn into a bow at the top of the heart.

I used embroidery thread and paper twist on mine as I didn't have any yarn laying around. Yarn will be much easier for the children to use for lacing their hearts!

Valentine Clip Art

Are You Ready?

Roses have been used
to symbolise love
and passion for ages.
But the tradition of
color symbolism doesn't
stop there.
There is also
symbolism attached to
how many roses
are sent!

Single Rose

Is used as
a matter of fact
type message.
It means:
I love you.

One Dozen Roses

Twelve roses means
I truly love
and care about you.

Two Dozen Roses

It represents excess.
But be careful
sending two dozen
can raise questions!

Petite Roses

Known as
sweetheart roses
they are perfect
for budding romances.

Is your sweetheart
allergic to flowers?

Try sending
a gift basket
instead.
