Host a Poker Theme Party
Adult party ideas that are clean, fun and family friendly.

Hosting a Poker Theme Party can be so much fun.
One of the hottest crazes in town is Texas Hold-em Poker. If you haven't tried playing this game, you should. Its a lot of fun and very easy to learn.
The supplies you will need are minimal:A deck of cards
Poker chips
Dealer chip
(optional)
Gather the supplies, call a couple of friends then shuffle up and deal!
Invitations
Make your own Poker Theme Party invitations with clip art or real photos from the internet.
Use pictures of dice, cards, dealers or a poker table.

Activities
A game of Texas Hold-em can run approximately two hours.
The Setup:
Its best to have 9 players per table to begin the game. Texas Hold-em can be played with fewer players but nine is optimal.
You want to make sure that nine players can fit around the poker table comfortably. If you don't have a table big enough you could take a piece of plywood or an old door and use that for a table. Just cover it with green fabric.
Each guest should be given the same number of poker chips to begin the evening ($1500 to $3000 worth). You can increase or decrease the amount depending on the party size.
You will want to have a timer so that you can raise the blinds every ten minutes or so.
Each table will need a dealers' chip. It is used for keeping track of large and small blinds during game play.
Party Favors
Every guest should receive a small token of your appreciation for attending your Poker Theme Party.
Give prizes based on chip counts at the end of the evening.
A fun twist is to have each guest bring an item that costs under $10.00 or $20.00. Ask your friends ahead of time to set a cost limit.
At the end of the evening the guest hoarding the most
poker chips
gets to pick any item from the table. The next highest chip count then chooses and so on down the line.
You can also give prizes based on the four hardest to hit hands.
Here's a list of gag gifts for the four hardest hands to hit:
Royal Flush:
A toilet wand and a roll of paper!
A gold crown and a robe!(make the robe out of a dark green garbage bag or green fabric and glue gold or silver christmas garland along the edges.Glue a couple pieces of yarn about chest high so it can tie in the front.)
Straight Flush:
A ruler with small commode glued to the end of it.
A ruler with 1,2,3 magnetic numbers glued to it.
Four of a Kind:
Four apples or grapes on a skewer.
Four little trinkets that are the same in color, size and shape.
Full House:
Small house with minature furniture or people glued on so they are hanging out the windows and doors.
A small toy boat.(A full house is sometimes called a full boat)
Food and Drinks
Keep the food simple for a Poker Theme Party. Stay away from food that is sticky or messy.
You don't want barbecue sauce or hot sauce on the cards.
Use cookie cutters to make suited cookies. (clover, hearts, diamonds, spades)
Be careful of alcohol if you are using plastic coated or plastic playing cards.
Alcohol can melt the cards if spilled onto them.
Ok, how many of you actually ran to get cards to try that out??
My source said it was Tequila that melted the cards not Beer!
If you are serving drinks in a glass, add
flashing dice
for a fun look.
