Turn your Fantasies into Reality with Party Decorations
Have you ever gone to a Luau theme party and the only Party Decorations they had that resembled the tropics was the little umbrella in the drink?
Don't let that happen to you when you throw your next theme party.
You want your friends to feel like they have left the real world behind and have stepped into a fantasy world for the next few hours.
When you click on a theme category to the left of this page, you are taken to individual parties that have decorating suggestions as well as party activities.
While the suggestions on those pages give you a start on how to decorate for that particular theme party, they don't delve deeply into decorating to create the complete fantasy atmoshpere.
Time and space won't allow me to walk you through step by step decorating for each and every party theme out there. So I picked one child theme party and one adult theme party to walk you through.
A Space Party and how to use space party decorations to create an out of this world atmosphere.
A Movie Party and how to set up your movie party decorations so that your guests feel like they are at the Oscars.
A Prom Decorations hints and tips to get the most out of your prom decorating budget.
Where to get your Party Decorations:
Before we begin with how to create your theme ambience, I'd like to mention a few of the best party suppliers I have found:
Hundreds of Party Themes!
Celebration Fantastic - Delightful Designers Store
Outlet Store with Party Supplies
Planning for Party Decorations:
You have your theme picked out and you are ready to plan how to decorate the party but don't know where to start?
Here is how I plan my party decorations:
The first thing I do when deciding on decorations is to make a list of every single item I can think of that fits the party theme. It doesn't matter if its a decoration item or not, just list everything that comes to mind when you think of your theme. Ask your family what they think of when you mention the theme. You will use that list to help you create your theme party atmosphere.
Think of the party area as if you were standing in a box. There are six surfaces: the ceiling, four walls and a floor. You will want to try and cover all six surfaces with party decorations. There will be times when you can only cover five as floors can be expensive to decorate but cover as many as your budget allows.
You would also have miscellaneous decorations that could be items like tiki torches, tableware, and centerpieces. Things that go on table surfaces or that stand alone as decorations go into this category.
Write the six surface areas and the miscellaneous category on paper with space below to add decorating ideas. Here is a sample of how my page would look:
Ceiling:
Wall 1:
Wall 2:
Wall 3:
Wall 4:
Floor:
Miscellaneous:
I would then start putting the items from my theme idea list into the correct category on this decorating list. This list can be used to make sure no surface is left uncovered, but also use it as a shopping list.
To see how I use this list and how I decorate a party check out one of these two pages:
Space Party Decorations
Movie Party Decorations
You can use the decorating techniques from those two pages for any party theme.
So what are you waiting for? Make your lists and get started creating your fantasies.
