Are you hosting a theme party, but having a hard time trying to find an invitation that matches your party theme? Make your own invitations.
Thousands of invitations are being made at home every day. It's fun and easy to do.
You can do it! Lets start with some suggestions on how to tie the invitation to the party theme.
Choosing an idea for you invitation:
The easiest way to make the party theme come alive in the invitation is to make a list of everything that comes to mind when you think of the party theme.
Here is a sample of my list for a pirate party:
Eye patch
Pirate ship
Treasure chest
Lets look at the eye patch phrase a little closer.
You could use black construction paper and cut out the shape of an eye patch, decorate it and include the party information on the inside.
Pirate Invitation shows you step by step how I made the eye patch invitation.
Some of the other items on the list could also be used to Make Your Own Invitations:
Treasure Chest: Print out a picture of a treasure chest, glue to card stock and include the party information.

The best paper to use when you Make Your Own Invitations:
Paper selection is important when making your invitations. You want to make sure the base of the card is not too flimsy.
Card Stock:
Card stock is heavy paper and comes in sheet form or prefolded forms. I would recommend prefolded invitation paper for your first attempts at making invitations. You would just need to decorate the cards and send them out. They are inexpensive and come in many colors. Some card stock comes pre-printed with party designs on the front and fill in the blank party information on the inside. These are the easiest party invitations to use.
Poster Board: Gone are the days of plain white poster board, although white is still a popular color. Now you can find this paper in a variety of colors. This paper is easy to cut and inexpensive. You can cut your invitations from this paper. You can send this type of paper through most household printers.
Scrapbooking Paper: This paper is wonderful to use.
You can find printed paper suitable for any theme along with popular solid colors.
This whole industries has created a wonderful selection of papers, stickers, page embelishments and tools that allows you to easily make your own invitations.
My Favorite Tip: I like to use old greeting cards that I won't use for anything else. Do you have a box of Christmas cards that you aren't going to send out? Why not make them useful? Make Your Own Invitations Using them.
Spray paint the cards in colors that match your party theme:
Lay the cards on a flat surface with the inside pointing up to you. Now spray them with a light coat of paint. Let dry for 15 minutes and then spray again. Continue until you don't see any of the old writing. Many light coats of paint are better than one runny coating. Let dry overnight. Flip the cards over and spray paint like you did to the inside. You will want to cover all writings and pictures and end up with a solid color. Then decorate with stickers, paint or markers.
