Bake cake according to instructions. Let cool.
Trim cake into a ghostly shape. (practice on a sheet of paper if you need to.
Put a teaspoon of white frosting into a glass and tint it red with the food coloring. Set aside.
Frost the ghost cake with the white frosting.
For a fun texture you can brush lightly over the whole cake with a pastry brush. This gives it a cloth like look. If you mess up just smooth the frosting out again with a spatula!
Draw the eyes and mouth of your ghost using the black gel.
Dab the red frosting into the mouth opening to form a tongue.
Make a cake board for your cake by cutting a piece of cardboard slightly larger than the cake. Cover the board with wrapping paper or foil.
When you set the cake onto the board to frost it slip a couple pieces of waxed paper under the cake to keep the frosting from getting onto the board.
After you trim a cake you can slip it into the freezer for a few minutes before frosting to keep the crumbs from getting in the way of a nice frosting job!
This ghost cake was fun to make and ultra easy.
