
You can use a shaped cake pan to bake this cake, there is a link for one at the bottom of the page.
It would be quicker than trying to cut the shape out.

Baked in a rectangular cake pan or the special football shaped pan shown below.
For this cake I baked two 13x9 inch cakes and layered them as I had some extra frosting to get rid of.
Cut the cake into the shape of a football.
Frost with chocolate frosting.
Pipe white frosting on for the lacing.
If you don't have a decorator bag with tips you can use a plastic baggie. Put frosting into the bag and squeeze it down into one of the corners. Cut the very tip off the corner and squeeze bag till the frosting starts coming out.
