Here's a blueprint for a successful
Construction Party

The Television show "Bob the Builder" is a hit with boys and girls of all ages.

A Construction Party can be a way for your child to play out some of the experiences he/she has seen on the show.

While this party plan can be used for either a boy or girl birthday party; for simplicity, I'm going to be using the male view.

Construction Party Invitations:

A really fun idea would be to take small vehicles and attach the party information to them. Use name tag labels, write the Construction Party information on them, stick that onto a slightly larger piece of construction paper. Punch a hole into one end and attach it to the vehicle with twine. Mail the trucks in a small box to each guest.

Use heavy paper and cut out the shape of road signs.
Use red construction paper to make stop signs. On the front make it look like a stop sign complete with white trim going around the edges. Then write "Stop and join us" Making the word stop large and adding the join us part in smaller letters. Put the Construction Party information onto the back and mail.

An Under Construction sign would also be fun: Jons' Birthday is Under Construction and we need your help to build a day full of fun and memories. Please join us.

If you are rushed for time, you can order some Construction Party invitations and have them delivered right to your door.

Around Town A really nice invitation it comes in a package of eight and includes some fun stickers. It has three different vehicles on the front and would be fun to use for this construction party.

Construction Invitations This one shows a huge dump truck with the word Party on the front. It comes in a package of eight will fill in the blank areas. Any boy would love to receive this one!

Construction Party Decorations:

You can't turn your house into a construction yard, but you can put up signs, and cardboard cutouts to make it look more like a building site.

Every construction worker has to have tools to do their job correctly. Use construction paper and trace hammers, screwdrivers and wrenches. Cut out the shapes and tape to the walls, doors, and bookshelves. Just make sure to put them away before junior gets his hands on them or he will be doing construction where you don't want him to!

If you don't have time to make your own or if you feel you need bigger tools to complete the job, here are some giant tools cutouts that will fit the job.

I don't know about you, but when I'm looking at party supplies, I usually try to find things that can be used in more than one way. Items that can be used as decoration and then be used in a game are treasures. This traffic light fits the bill as its a decoration and can be used for starting and stopping races. It can be used at this party and then brought out again for the next party or at a family reunion where races are taking place.

Typical streamers just don't fit the Construction Party theme! Use yellow caution tape instead. You can pick up a nice sized roll of it at any hardware or home improvement store. Hang it from the ceiling, place it into an x shape on doors, use it for the finish line in races.

To decorate the front of your house I ran across this really cute Caution Birthday Ahead sign that would look great if placed out from the front porch and then add some caution tape directing the flow of traffic for the party up to and in through the front door.

Shopping for party supplies to decorate with can be time consuming. Are you running from store to store trying to find just the right plates, napkins and invitations? Use this Trucking Party Kit or this Construction Party Kit to save yourself from running all over town. These can be delivered right to your door!

Construction Party Activities:

Building Race:
Each boy gets 10-15 sugar cubes. On the word "GO" they have to stack them up one on top of the other. The first person to get all 15 stacked is the winner. You could make it a rule that if the stack falls over twice they can't start it again.

Racing Fun
Supplies needed: Various small toys and trucks. A piece of wood approximately 10" wide and 8 foot long.
Prop the wood up to form a ramp, you can use books stacked on top of each other or boxes to raise one end of the board. The other end of the board should rest on the ground. Each guest chooses one of the vehicles. Pick two children to race first, they both put their vehicles at the top of the ramp and let go of them at the same time. The car that makes it to the bottom first wins that round. That person then races another person and it continues until one person is the winner.

House Building
Supplies needed: Boxes of various sizes and shapes.
Have the boxes just tossed into the center of the room, divide the group into two teams. Place them on opposite sites of the pile. On the word "go" the first person in the team runs to the stack of boxes, grabs one and takes five steps to their right and places the box down, they run back to the line and tag the second person. That person runs to the pile grabs a box and runs to where the first box is and places it on top of the other box. The first team that builds a building 4 foot or higher wins the race. If during the building the boxes fall over, the person who is closest to the building has to stand them all back up before continuing.

Construction Party Favors:

All construction workers need tool belts! You can get apron type nail holders at your local hardware or home improvement store. Personalize each one with the guests' names and then fill the pockets with stickers , bubbles, small plastic tool kits and candy. What a fun way to remind everyone of the good time they had at your Construction Party .

Construction trucks are another fun party favor. Give one to each guest.

When I picture kids at a Construction Party ,I can see a child with a tool belt around his waist and a yellow hard hat flopping off his head! They are cute aren't they. Give each child their own hard hat. Make sure to take pictures of your hard working crew complete with their hardhats! This is something that I would probably give to the children early at the Construction Party, so they can wear them during the activities.

Each worker on a job site has a specific job that they are in charge of, it should be no different at a Construction Party, give each guest a job with these 2" Worker Badges. A fun and fair way to hand these out would be to place them face down and have each guest pick one. That way they aren't fighting over the same job!

Fill mini hard hats with candy or small gifts, personalize each one and have them sitting on the table as name plates.

Construction Party Food and Drinks:

Most construction workers pack their lunches in brown bags or in plastic lunch coolers! A Construction Party should carry on that tradition. Make each of your guests a brown bag lunch that includes sandwhiches, a boxed drink, a cookie, a banana, apple or bunch of grapes and a napkin. You can have the kids sit at the table to eat, but it would be much more fun to sit around the construction site! So if you played the building a house game, let them find a spot somewhere amongst all of that to sit and enjoy their lunch!

Shaped Cake Pans The firetruck pan can be used to make a dumptruck. The little hero pan can be used to make a construction worker!.

Cone Candles would look great on the birthday cake for your little worker or on top of cupcakes.
