clown toss game

Try to have some back up games just in case something goes wrong. If the kids are really enjoying a game let them keep playing it! The majority of these games can be played indoors.

Races:

Child Party Games typically involve races of some sort. They are the most popular activities for children. You can turn almost any activity into a race. Not all races have to be running games or played outdoors. These Child Party Games give you a variety of team races and individual races.

Mummies:
Supplies: A roll of toilet paper and a roll of tape for each team.
Divide group into two or more teams. One person from each team volunteers to be the mummy. On the word "go" the teams race to wrap the mummy from the neck down with the toilet paper. If the paper rips, they must tape it back on to continue. First team to use up the roll of toilet paper wins. A fun Child Party Game that requires you to take pictures of the finished mummy as well as while the children are wrapping the mummy!

Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts are becoming very popular for parties.
There are so many creative ways to host a scavenger hunt. I have found a wonderful and unique source that will help you with setting up your next hunt: Scavenger hunts by Diva girl parties

Spoon Race:
A classic child party game:
Supplies: A spoon for each child, small object that fits onto the spoon like a cotton ball, peanut, hard candy or penny.
Divide group into two teams and line them up arms length apart. Give the person at the beginning of the line the small item. On the word "go" they pass the item from player to player without using their hands. If the item falls to the ground, it goes back to the beginning before it can be passed again. A team wins if the item gets to the end of the line.

Balloon Race:
Supplies: Balloons inflated
Played in the same manner as the spoon race except the children pass the balloon using only their elbows, chin or knees!

Three Legged Race:
A Child Party Game that is sure to bring laughs to everyone.
Supplies: Potato Sacks or burlap sacks.
Two children per one sack. Each person has to put a foot into the sack. They line up arms length or more from each other. On the word "go" they have to hop their way to the finish line that is placed 20 or so feet away from the starting line.

Sit Down or Passive Games:

These are Child Party Games that are played while the children are sitting in a circle or at a table, or that don't require a lot of energy. Weave one or two of these games into the party after a very active game or activity to calm the children down. Child Party Games don't have to be loud and crazy to be fun!

What am I:
Supplies: 10-12 socks without holes, a variety of common household items (a roll of tape, a spoon, a tape measure, a ball, etc.)
Fill each sock with one item. Tie the tops shut with ribbons or string. The children sit in a circle and pass the socks around so that everyone has a chance to feel them. They then write down what they believe each item is. The one with the most items correct wins a prize. You can make the items tougher for older children by putting things like rice or beans into the socks. A fun Child Party Game that is sure to be a hit!

Memory:
Supplies: 10 to 12 household items, a tray to put them on, paper, pencil.
Arrange the items onto a tray, give the children 3 minutes to study the items. Take the tray away and have them try to remember what was on the tray. Person with the most correct guesses wins a prize.

Play Dough:
Supplies: Play dough and cookie cutters.
Give each child a supply of play dough and have them create items related to the theme. If the party has a race theme, each one makes a race car. For younger children, just let them play with it.

Give everyone a tattoo from face paint that relates to the party theme. Hire someone to do the painting, or practice some designs before the party.

Balloon Twisting:
Supplies: Balloons made for twisting.
Hire someone to perform balloon twisting, or learn to make a few before the party. You can then teach older children how to twist.

Ice Cream:
Make ice cream the old fashioned way giving everyone a turn at turning the handle.
Another variation would be to give everyone a scoop of ice cream on a plate and supply them with sprinkles, syrup, and small candies. Give them 3-4 minutes to decorate the scoop. If the party is for older children, have them decorate the scoop so that it relates to the party theme.

Word Scramble:
Supplies: A list of 10-15 words that have been scrambled. One page for each child. A pencil or pen for each guest.
This classic Child Party Game can be played by all age groups. You give each child a paper that has words scramble up and they have to unscramble as many as possible within two to three minutes. Person with the most correct words wins a prize. Make the words relate to the party theme.

Person that gets the most items in, wins. You could also place a bullseye on the ground underneath the container. Put the container in the middle where the bullseye is, and have small circular areas marked around the container that give points for when the child misses the container.

Pin the Tail Games:
This is the Classic Child Party Game from when I was a child. Supplies: A blindfold, a pinning poster and something to pin to the poster.
Why use the donkey as the wall poster? Use craft paper, old wrapping paper, or pictures that you get sized to poster size to make a theme related game. For a princess party, make the poster a picture of the princess where you have to place a crown on her head. For a pirate party draw a treasure chest and each person has to put a piece of gold into the chest. The possibilities are endless!

Simon Says:
No supplies needed!
Line the children up arms length apart. Explain that you are "Simon" and they must follow whatever "Simon says" they are not to follow your instructions if you don't say "Simon says" before the command. Give a trial run through so everyone understands the game. Then start giving them commands to jump on one foot, twirl in a circle, touch their toes etc... saying "Simon Says" before each command, but leaving it off a few. Anyone that does the activity that isn't preceded by "Simon Says" is out of the game. Continue until you have one player left.

Clothing Fun:
Supplies: A bag full of outdated, silly clothing items. Large sunglasses, baseball glove, suit jacket etc. You will also need a source of music, and a potato.
The bag is set into the middle of the floor, the children form a circle around it. Give the birthday child the potato. When the music starts they pass the potato around the circle. When the music stops, the person holding the potato must go to the bag, grab an item without looking and put it on. They get back into the circle and the game starts again. Continue until no clothes are left.

Freeze:
Supplies: Music source
Kids dance around to the music. When the music stops they must freeze completely. Anyone caught moving, smiling, or talking is out. Continue until one player is left.

Building Blocks:
Supplies: Large cardboard boxes and markers.
Let the children decorate the boxes with the party theme. If the party is a princess party, have them decorate the boxes to look like a castle.

Twister:
Supplies: Twister floor game purchased from any toy store.
A mat with large colored circles is placed on the ground. A spinner with corresponding colors is spun. The children have to put a hand or a foot on the color that the spinner shows. This is a fun Child Party Game and one that will never go out of style.

Pinata:
Supplies: A pinata and a stick for breaking it, if you haven't chosen to use a pull string pinata.
For the traditional Child Party Game of pinata busting, the pinata is hung by a string. The child is blindfolded, handed the stick and given a chance to break the pinata by swinging at it. In the pull string pinatas each child grabs a string that hangs from the bottom of the pinata and on the word "go" they pull the strings releasing all the candy or toys from inside.
