
There is something magical in those red and white stripes of a candy cane!
Pin the Stripe On The Candy Cane
Draw a large candy cane on poster board.
Make stripes on the candy cane and color all of them in but one.
Use red construction paper to make a stripe the same size as the one uncolored.
Write each childs name on a stripe. Blindfold the children one at a time and see who can get the stripe closest to where it belongs.

One red pipe cleaner
One White pipe cleaner
Wire cutters
Twist the red pipe cleaner around the white pipe cleaner.
Cut the pipe cleaner in half to form two sticks.
Bend one end of the stick down to form a candy cane hook.

Pipe Cleaner
Twist pipe cleaner around the curved section of the candy cane.
Fold the ends of the pipe cleaner to form antlers.
Glue to eyes just under the antlers.
Glue a nose onto the tip.

Two Candy Canes

Hold candy canes back to back with the curves pointing outward.
Starting near the bottom wrap the pipe cleaners around the two candy canes keeping the wraps close together.
Glue wiggle eyes onto the candy canes
Glue nose onto candy cane.
Melt chocolate wafers according to package instructions.
Dip most of the pretzel into the chocolate, leaving a small section for holding onto.
Let dry on wax paper.
Pipe red stripes along the pretzel to resemble a candy cane.
Candy Cane Cupcakes
Bake cupcakes and frost with white frosting.
Lay the cupcakes onto a serving platter so they form the shape of a candy cane.
Pipe red frosting over the cupcakes to form the stripes of the candy cane.
Directions
Mix sugar, corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar in a large saucepan.
Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Cook without stirring until a candy thermometer reaches 280° F.
Turn off the heat and add the peppermint extract.
Divide the mixture in half by carefully pouring part of it into another pan.
Add the red food coloring to one of the pans.
Grease three cookie sheets.
Pour the red mixture onto one cookie sheet and the clear mixture into another one.
Butter your hands and grab some of the clear taffy.
Have someone else grab some of the red taffy.
Pull and fold the pieces repeatedly until they appear glossy.
Roll into a long coil.
Twist the two coils together and roll to smooth them out.
Cut into 8" pieces.
Form a hook on one end and place onto the third cookie sheet to harden.
Makes approximately 6 Candy Canes.
