
You can build two cakes with one cake mix or put both cakes together to make a thicker basketball. I liked the single layer cake so there was one for each end of the table.

Bake the cake according to the directions on the box. Allow the cake to cool.
Tint all but approximately 1/2 cup of the frosting an orangish red color.
Make the 1/2 cup of frosting as brown as you can.
Frost the cake with the orange frosting.
Put the brown frosting into a plastic baggie. Squish the frosting towards one corner. Cut a small section from the corner of the baggie. (not too wide as this is your "decorating tip" for drawing the lines on the ball.
You can draw guides for the lines using a butter knife before drawing them in with the frosting.
