Barn Invitation

This Barn Invitation is easy to put together and fun to make.

barn invitation

Use the barn for a hoe-down, child's birthday party, or a western theme party. Making your own invitations can save you money and they're just plain fun to create.

Homemade Invitations

Supplies Needed:
Red Construction Paper
Glue
White Copy Paper
Correction Marker or White Ink Marker
Ruler
Pencil

One piece of construction paper will make 2 invitations.

Step 1

Fold the construction paper in half short side to short side. Press the fold down flat.

I like to run the edge of a ruler over the fold to make sure it is tight. You could also use the backside of a spoon.

Cut that piece in half so that you have two pieces approximately 4 1/2 inches wide.

Step 2

Fold the piece of white copy paper in half short sides together. Press that fold down, although it doesn't need to be a tight fold, it does need to be squeezed.

Cut a 1/2 wide strip from the piece. The strip should be 1/2" wide by 5-1/2" long.

The white strip will have a fold in it, cut along the fold to make two pieces.

Step 3

Time to cut the roof pitch on the invitation.
Make sure you have the fold on the left hand side so the invitation will open up correctly.

Use a pencil and make a mark 1 1/2 inches down from the top of the barn invitation.

Mark a line from those points to the center top of the invitation.
I have it shown in the picture by the dotted white lines.

Cut along those lines to form the barn invitation roof.

Step 4

Time to add some barn doors and windows!

Make a small mark 1" in from the left side of the invitation along the very bottom. Make a second mark one inch away from the first one.

Using a pencil, very lightly draw a line 1-1/2" from the bottom of the invitation the line will be above the dots and runs horizontal to the bottom of the invitation. Use the ruler to mark on that lightly penciled line the 1" in from the left side spot and then the second spot 1" from the first dot. This gives you four dots to connect to draw the door rectangle. You can see my four dots on the right side of the invitation pictured.

Repeat the measuring and marking for the right hand side.

Once your rectangular shaped doors are penciled in, go ahead and mark the X in each door using the ruler to make straight diagonal lines.

Go back and gently erase any marks that extend past the door frame.

Using the correction marker go over the rectangular shapes and the X to make them stand out.

Put a square or circle in the top are to be a window at the top of the barn. I drew a square because it's easier for me than a circle.

Step 5

Glue one of the white copy paper strips across the front of the barn.
You might want to write a saying across it first. If you mess up your writing you can cut another one much easier before it is attached to the barn!

Use a cute saying like : Jenny's Ranch 2007, or YeeHaw, It's A Party.

Write the party date, time, place, R.S.V.P phone number and date and who the party is for on the inside of the invitation.

There you have it, your very own homemade barn invitation.
