Balloon Pop Party Game

Balloon Pop is a fun and exciting party game for all ages.

Here is a slightly out of focus picture of my son and his friend having fun with this balloon game at his birthday party years ago.
I can remember playing this game when I was much younger at my parties and it doesn't get old. It is still a lot of fun. Some of the younger kids are just learning about it for the first time.

Don't be afraid to try some of the games that you used to play at parties, they might actually be fun for the newer generations!

Balloon games are so easy to set up, fun to play and don't cost a lot of money.

Supplies Needed

2 sturdy chairs (don't use folding chairs for this game)
1 balloon for each party guest
2 laundry baskets or boxes

Prepare for the Game

Inflate the balloons and put them into the laundry baskets or boxes.

Place the chairs at one end of the room.

Place the laundry baskets full of balloons a couple of feet away from chairs.

Begin the Game

Divide the party guests into two teams.

Line them up opposite the chairs and a couple of feet away from the laundry baskets.

On the word "go" the first person in each line runs to the basket and picks up a balloon. They run with the balloon to the chair. Place the balloon onto the chair and try to pop it as fast as they can by sitting on it.

When they have their balloon popped, they run back to the line and tag the next player.

The team who pops all their balloons first wins the game.

Some Fun Balloon Pop Variations:

1. Play this game outside in the summer using water balloons instead of air filled balloons.

2. Have the first person in line go to the basket grab a balloon and take it back to the next person in line who takes it to the chair to pop.

3. Fill one balloon in each group with confetti. The person who pops this balloon wins a special prize.

4. Fill one balloon for each group with confetti and stress that its the balloon that needs to be popped last. If the balloon gets popped earlier in the game, the player needs to clear the confetti off the chair before continuing the game. (this slows down that team allowing the other team a chance to get ahead)

Balloon Craft

Balloon Faces

Glue pieces of construction paper or felt onto an inflated balloon to create a face. Or you could use markers to draw the face.
Glue pieces of yarn or curling ribbon to the top for hair.
You can use styrofoam cups to create a neck and to hold the balloon up. Turn the cup over and poke a small hole in the bottom. Stick balloon opening through the hole and tape or glue in place.
If you need more weight, you can glue or tape the cup to a paper plate.

Balloon Facts
Helium escapes from a balloon because the helium atoms are smaller than the pores in the latex.
It takes a day or so to leak out.

The inside of a balloon can be treated with a polymer solution (a gel sold by the trade name "Hi Float") which coats the inside and clogs the pores.
Clogging the pores keeps the helium atoms from escaping and lets the balloon stay inflated for a week or longer.
