Baby Theme Parties Survival Guide
Baby Theme Parties are a lot of fun, they can also get loud and stressful.
Babies and Toddlers love the excitement of a birthday party. The more the excitement grows, the louder they can get! All the excitement can cause stress for you as well as for the child.
Use these birthday tips and hints to help make the toddler theme birthday party as stress-free as possible.
Guest Lists:
Don't invite more than you can accommodate. 12 guests are considered the maximum for Baby Theme Parties. Host this Party at a time when the children aren't going to be tired. I always found the best time to start a birthday party for this age group was around 2p.m.
Invite the Parents or Guardian to stay at the party with their child.
Decorations for Baby Theme Parties
I like to put a twist onto the acronym K.I.S.S. for all my parties. Instead of "Keep It Simple Stupid"
(which seems rude to me!) I like "Keep It Simple and Safe"
When dealing with babies, toddlers and children it's best to always keep safety as your number one concern.
Use lots of colorful party supplies for a Baby Theme Party.
Colorful tablecloths, hanging crepe paper streamers, and cut-outs of cartoon characters should adorn the birthday party area. Make sure tablecloths aren't able to be pulled off the table!
These decorations don't have to cost a bundle and don't have to look professionally made. Simple balloon shapes cut from construction paper or poster board will suffice.
At this age the party is mostly for the adults and older children.

BALLOON SAFETY:
If you are floating birthday balloons around the ceiling at your baby theme party, either exclude ribbons or keep ribbons cut short enough that toddlers and babies can't reach them. As soon as you notice a party balloon has popped, pick up and discard the pieces. If you need to stay in the room with the children, then put the pieces into your pocket. Just make sure they aren't laying around where a curious infant or pet could ingest them. When inflating balloons with Helium, make sure to do this away from the children and make sure the tank is locked up somewhere after you are done with it.
Activitites for Baby Theme Parties
If there are going to be older children in attendance, set up an area where they can play safely and make sure to stock it with plenty of age appropriate games, coloring books, and craft ideas. You might be able to find items for this area that are related to the party theme.
You might hire a family teenager to oversee the older childs' gaming area.
For Babies and Toddlers you can hire a party entertainer if your budget allows, or find a
family friend to dress up as a clown. Keep the theme of the birthday party in mind and try to hire someone who can dress in the appropriate party attire. A Spaceman if the theme is Space, a Pirate if the theme is Pirate adventure
Keep age appropriate toys for the babies to play with.
Children under the age of 2 aren't going to be ready for party games where they take turns. They mainly want to play. (usually with the toy someone else has!)
Keep things simple, and keep your sanity... Baby Theme Parties can be stressful if you don't keep a sense of humor.
Things are going to go wrong at this age ... just make sure everyone stays safe and try to have a good time.
Party Favors:
These are little party gifts that you put into a goody bag or box for your guests to take home. Try to follow the party theme idea when making up the party favor bags.
You will want to have one for each child or family in attendance.
Try to keep a few extras on hand in case someone shows up unexpectedly.
If the guests are mostly family... you might include a small picture frame with a picture of the Birthday child. (you will need to have these made up ahead of time).
If you have a digital camera and a computer, you can make up a bunch of photos easily and inexpensively.

Food and Drinks:
Babies don't eat a lot of food. The party food will mainly be to keep the adults and older children satisfied.
Always keep a box of mashed potato mix on hand for those picky eaters! They're quick
and easy to make. I haven't met a child that doesn't like mashed potatoes.
If its a large crowd, just serve buffet style items; carrots, cheese squares, chips, small meatballs etc... Make sure its a variety of items, you might have guests that can't eat dairy products or that are vegetarians.
If the crowd is small you could try having a cookout with hotdogs and hamburgers or
steak if your budget allows it.
Include a salad or two for vegetarians.
For the Birthday Baby you might consider giving them a special cupcake as their birthday cake and having a large full size birthday cake to feed the guests. Make sure the decoration on the cupcake relates to the birthday party theme.
If there are multiple children you might consider party cupcakes for all of them. Just make the birthday childs' cupcake a different color. Serve the rest of the crowd regular cake.
Once a child hits 3 years old they are going to want an actual Birthday Cake!
Keep a bunch of Handy Wipes available. You can get boxes of them at any Office Supply Store. They are great for the instant wiping of hands and faces as well as getting birthday cake and ice cream out of hair or off the walls!
