Why give a baby shower?
First and foremost, a baby shower serves as a way to celebrate the baby with family and friends.
First baby only?Traditionally a shower was given only for the first baby.
Times have changed! If you want to host a party for the second, third even fourth baby than go ahead.
The party is a gift from you to the expectant parents.
Who hosts the shower?
The baby shower typically is given by a best friend but can also be given by family members.
Coworkers can also host a baby shower.
Setting a Date
Check with the expectant parents to set the date.
You can have the shower before the baby is born or after.
Before Baby is BornThis is a traditional time to have the shower.
The shower can be given any time during the pregnancy. Two to three months before delivery is the most typical time. This allows the parents time to organize baby items and purchase any items not yet aquired.
After Baby is BornHosting a shower after the baby is born is becoming more popular. This allows the parents to show off the new arrival to many people in one sitting. It eliminates many visitors popping in during those hectic first few weeks home.
It also allows guests to buy gender specific items for the baby.
Picking a Location
Having the party in your home will be easiest but will it be the best location?
Do you have room to host the party?
Is your house easy to find?
Do you have plenty of parking areas?
Renting a hall for a couple of hours might be necessary.
Guest Lists
Invite family members and friends of the expectant parents.
Co-ed parties are becoming popular but check with the parents to see how they feel about it. Most guys are still a little shy about attending a baby shower.
