The pictures show shower cakes that were done by professionals. I use these types of pictures for the ideas and use regular techniques to pull off a similiar look. So while a cake may look like you need special tools and techniques, sometimes you can get by with improvising. If a special pan is the only way to bake the cake, it is mentioned.
Rubber Ducky Cake a cute duck cake. It is standing up so this requires a special pan to bake with.

Baby Go Round shows an elaborate cake, but it can be simplified. The blocking effect on the bottom layer is what catches my eye and could be the cake itself. Or add the drum on top of it for a fun second layer.
Babys Coming I prefer traditional frosting techniqes so for this cake I would frost with vanilla frosting and pipe on the squares that spell baby. Candy conversation hearts could be used for the top decorating.
Babys Security Blanket this little bear with his blankie is adorable. It does use a special pan but its well worth buying.
Beary Sweet Cupcakes beary cute cupcakes. Just frost cupcakes and pipe on the bears face. Simple and easy to do. I'd be tempted to use chocolate mints for the ears!
Diaper Downpour a cloud and rainbow trio of cakes. What a fun idea. I'm not a fan of fondant so I'd frost with blue icing and pipe on the clouds. The rainbows can be made with twizzler rainbow colored licorice sticks.
Pitter Patter Cupcakes cute pastel colored cupcakes with baby booties piped on top. This is a great idea for beginners to try.
Snuggle Quilt this is so cute and they put a lot of work into it. I'd frost the cake white. Add colored frosting to create the squares. Let it harden and then using paper towels press into the squares to create texture. Pipe the borders for the squares to give them definition. I would also cheat and use a bear shaped sugar cookie!
