Family New Years Celebration

A New Years celebration where you tuck away precious memories from the year and prepare for new adventures.

Celebrate the old year and ring in the new by creating time capsules for each family member. Don't be scared it's just a fancy way of saying we need to pack away some of your old stuff to make room for the stuff you create during the coming year!

Celebration Supplies:

A large sturdy plastic storage box for each family member. Markers, Index cards and Clear boxing tape.
You might also provide a large trash can for each childs' room!

Time Capsule Rules:

Only pack away items that are in working order.
Don't pack away items you will need during the coming year.
Write childs' name and the year in large letters on the index card.
Write items down onto the card as they are put into the capsule.
Tape the card to the outside of the box.
Once a box is closed, it cannot be opened the rest of the year.

Items for Time Capsule:

A favorite shirt
A favorite toy
Papers or art work from school
Special notes and gift cards
Sports trophys or certificates

A General Guide

Have your children pack their own capsules.

While they are sorting through their rooms to find items to put into their time capsules, have them sort through items they no longer need or want. Put a trash bin in the room for trash. A clothes box for items that are in good shape that can be donated to charity and a toy box for those toys that they no longer want but that can be donated.

Put all time capsules where they won't be disturbed during the year.

New Years Celebration

Celebrate the cleaning of their rooms, gathering stuff for charity and the creation of the time capsules with a quiet family dinner.

You can open a family discussion on what they put into their time capsules and why they included them. Don't forget to share some of the items you put into your time capsule and why it was important to you.
