New Years Celebration at Home

Host a New Years party for your friends and family at your home.

Some people prefer to stay at home during this holiday, but still want to have a celebration with their friends. One solution is to host the party at your home, you won't have to drive and if you limit the party to friends within walking distance, they won't have to drive either.

Type of Gathering

Formal: everyone comes dressed in suits and dresses. The party can start at your home and continue on to a hotel or dance hall.

Casual: Come as you are, no dressing up and everyone just gathers for a buffet style dinner and casual conversation.

Theme Party: Pick a theme for your party, be it a popular movie, a favorite year or geographical location. Everyone dresses in costume for that theme.

Party Decorations

Leave your Christmas tree up but change the ornaments to items related to New Years. Use fun items like party hats, noise makers, party poppers, little bags of confetti and numerals for the coming year. It will be fun, whimsical and unique.

Food and Snacks:

This would be determined by the type of party you are having. If its a formal party a sit down dinner is appropriate. If the gather is causual finger foods are the easiest and quickest fix. A costume party opens up the food menu to being anything popular from the era chosen or the country you chose as the theme.

Drinks: provide transportation or a place for a person to stay if they have indulged in a little too much alcohol.
Provide non-alcohol alternatives.

Stroke of Midnight

If you have a grandfather clock set it to strike at midnight. You can also set the timer on your stove or set alarm clocks to buzz at midnight.

A balloon drop takes a little bit of time to set up but will provide a WOW factor to your party. A quicker although messier method is to fill helium balloons with confetti before inflating them and have your guests pop the balloons at midnight.
